Daniel Svetozarov Kukushev is a young Bulgarian actor, born on July 19, 2000 in Sofia. From an early age, he experimented and participated in theatrical activities, which led him to the NATFIZ "Krustyo Sarafov". There he studied acting for dramatic theater in the class of Prof. Dr. Penko Gospodinov and graduated in 2024 with excellent recommendations. His training includes a variety of performances — from classical to contemporary — including graduation productions such as "27 Bales of Cotton", "The Canterbury Tales", "I Want to Kill You", "Don Juan Returns from the War" and "Casting" (musical). These performances gave him a broad base for stage work and experience in different styles and genres.

 

While still a student, Kukushev began his professional career on stage. His debut role was Rosen Spasov in "Piano on the Moon" at Atelier313 Theater - a performance based on Valery Petrov, which allowed him to show his talent and presence in front of an audience. He was also nominated for the "Askeer" award in 2023 in the "Rising Star" category, for his role as "The Youth" in the performance "The Promise" by Gergan Tsenov. This nomination is a sign that the acting community is noticing him, and that he can be part of the future of contemporary Bulgarian theater.

Among the productions in which he has participated are "Brain Garbage" (an experimental project), "Yet Life Is Wonderful" (a production by "Théatro otsam kana") and "The Wonderful Adventures of Pinocchio" — roles that demonstrate diversity: from children's and fantasy texts to serious dramatic tasks.

 

In 2024, Daniel Kukushev will join the ensemble of the performance "Do You Swear to Children?", a production of the Artvent Theater, based on a play by Salome Lellouche. The play is directed by Kris Sharkov, translated by Snezhina Zdravkova, with music by Emilian Gatsov – Elbi and scenography by Vanina Tsandeva. In “Do You Swear to the Children?” Kukushev stars alongside Vesela Babinova, Vladimir Zombori and Lidiya Vasileva. The play asks questions about morality, promises and compromises, and is being performed on several stages in the country — Sofia, Ruse, Burgas, Varna, etc. This participation significantly contributed to his growth on stage and his visibility to a wider audience.

 

As a young actor, Daniel Kukushev combined dramatic sensitivity with lively humor and the ability to feel the rhythm of the conversation with the audience - qualities that help him confidently enter theater ensembles and seek roles that require not only voice and presence, but also a stable dramatic impulse. 

 

Kukushev is now part of a small but significant circle of young artists who manage to balance between training, stage practice, experimental formats and more mass productions. By participating in "Do You Swear at Children?", he demonstrated that he can be not only a performer, but also empathetic to topics that touch the audience - morality, relationships, personal promises and their consequences.
