Ivo Dimchev is a Bulgarian theatre director, performance artist, choreographer, singer and visual artist, born in 1976 in Sofia. He grew up in the experimental theatre troupe „4xC“ under the direction of Nikolai Georgiev — an environment that shaped his early artistic style. In 1997 he enrolled at NATFIZ in the acting program, but discontinued his studies the following year, after realizing the need for a more immediate creative approach, far from academic constraints.
Since the early 2000s, Dimchev has been creating original performances that synthesize dance, music, visual art and theatre. Over the years he has created more than 40 shows — among them „Sleeping Dog“, „Lili Handel“, „Facebook Theatre“, „Operville“, „Selfie Concert“, „Sculptures“ and „METCH“. His projects have been presented at leading festivals and venues around the world, including Europe, Asia, North and South America. He has been recognized with the „Ikar“ award for contemporary dance and performance (2016) and has been a resident artist at the „La MaMa“ theatre in New York since 2023.
His popularity extends into music as well: he has released the albums „Songs From My Shows“ (2017), „Sculptures“ (2017) and „Trakia“ (2022). In 2018 he impressed audiences in the United Kingdom at the auditions for X Factor, receiving praise from Robbie Williams.
In 2025 he marks 20 years on the artistic scene through the project OF!20 — a concert-performance and tour that presents the most striking moments of his visual-musical work. On October 4 the show is performed in Hall 1 of NDK, where his artistic eclecticism and vision meet audiences from Bulgaria, Europe and America, presented through an inimitable mix of music, visuals, stand‑up and performance.
Ivo Dimchev is an artist who relentlessly blurs genre boundaries and continues to be a cultural phenomenon — here, in the Balkans and around the world. With his projects he not only presents art, but imprints a world that is felt, changes, and cannot be forgotten.
