Petar Kalchev is a Bulgarian stage, television, film and voice actor, born on June 1, 1973 in Varna. After three unsuccessful attempts, in 1998 he was accepted and graduated in puppetry acting at NATFIZ „Krastyo Sarafov“ under Prof. Rumen Rachev.

 

His professional debut is at the Drama and Puppet Theatre „Konstantin Velichkov“ in Pazardzhik, where he performed from 1998 to 2000. In the new millennium he joined the company of Small City Theatre „Behind the Canal“, with which he remained connected through significant productions such as „Guards“, „Rhythm and Blues“, „Four Pairs of Epaulettes“, „Balkan Syndrome“, „The Visit of the Old Lady“ and others. The Satirical Theatre „Aleko Konstantinov“.

 

On screen, Kalchev established himself with television roles such as Yordan Parushev in the series „All Inclusive“ and police officer Nikolov in „The Path of Honor“. He also appeared in series such as „Undercover“ and „Revenge“, as well as in the films „Spartacus“ and „The Motorcycle“.

 

Another of his professional niches is dubbing — since 2008 he has been actively working for studios such as „Alexandra Audio“, „Doli Media Studio“ and others. For his contribution to theatre he received a group award from the Union of Bulgarian Actors in 2002 for the production „Guards“.

 

In 2024, Petar Kalchev appears in the comedy „Perfect Intruders“, a production based on a play by Jean-Pierre Martinez, directed by Nikolay Gunderov with music by Kalin Nikolov. The production – a premiere at „Theatre Artvent“ – gives him the opportunity to unfold comedic nuances in an ensemble with Gerasim Georgiev-Gero, Iva Todorova and Nadya Derderyan, becoming one of the notable performances of the season on the contemporary Bulgarian theatre stage.
