Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler was born on May 8, 1975, in Madrid and grew up between Spain and Miami – a city that would become the natural backdrop for his Anglo-Spanish musical world. The son of singer Julio Iglesias and journalist Isabel Preysler, he sensed early on that the stage was his place, but chose to carve his own path. After school in Miami and a brief stint at the University of Miami, Enrique recorded a demo and signed with the Mexican label Fonovisa, and in 1995 released his self-titled Spanish-language debut. The album quickly became a sensation in Latin America and among Spanish-speaking audiences in the United States, earning him a Grammy Award – a clear sign that the new voice in pop came not only with charm, but also with ambition and discipline. „Vivir“ and „Cosas del Amor“ followed, which solidified his position on the scene, and his first major tours showed that arenas and stadiums were his natural habitat.
The big English-language breakthrough came in 1999 with „Bailamos“, a song that catapulted Enrique Iglesias to the top of the American charts and became a bridge to the album „Enrique“, which contained more hits like „Rhythm Divine“ and the duet with Whitney Houston „Could I Have This Kiss Forever“. With „Be With You“ he topped the charts again, and „Escape“ (2001) brought the emblematic „Hero“ to his already broad audience. His appearance in the Super Bowl halftime show in 2000 and performances on major stages around the world cemented his status as one of the faces of global pop culture.
Over the years Enrique developed the ability to move freely between Spanish and English, between pop, dance and Latin rhythms – from „Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Song)“ through the bilingual „Euphoria“ with „I Like It“ to generational hits „Bailando“ with Gente de Zona and Descemer Bueno, „El Perdón“ with Nicky Jam, „Duele el Corazón“ and „Súbeme la Radio“. His joint tours with Pitbull strengthen his reputation as an artist who turns concerts into a celebration of energy and melody, and „Final (Vol. 1)“ from 2021 marks another chapter in a career that has remained faithful to the bold blending of languages and genres. Often called „the king of Latin pop“, he is among the most popular Spanish artists in the world, with tens of millions in sales and a constant presence at the top of Billboard's Latin charts.
He has also appeared on screen – in „Once Upon a Time in Mexico“ and as a guest star on television – and participates in charitable initiatives related to disasters and social causes. On a personal note, since the early 2000s Enrique Iglesias has been in a relationship with Anna Kournikova, with whom he has children – a discreet yet open presence of the family in the life of an artist for whom the stage is home and the audience a constant interlocutor. His biography features no magic-wand miracles: there is work, consistency, and a rare sense of how a melody can sound equally close in both Madrid and Miami.
