In his early years, he showed interest in theatre and the performing arts, which led him to the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts "Krastyo Sarafov," where in 1988 he graduated in "Acting for Dramatic Theatre." This start gave him a solid professional foundation — both for his acting and for his multifaceted creative work.

After graduating, Emil Markov began working primarily as an actor in various theatre troupes, among them the Drama Theatre in Sliven, the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov," the Youth Theatre "Nikolay Binev," and others. Here, Markov not only acts, but also takes on a directing role, adapting the Spanish comedy film by Cesc Gay to the Bulgarian context. The performance depicts Ana and Julio — a long-married couple in which distance, monotony, and misunderstandings set in, while the neighbors upstairs become a mirror of desires, fears, and hidden dissatisfactions.
