Info - Emil Markov:

Emil Zdravkov Markov is a Bulgarian actor, director, and screenwriter, born on April 28, 1963, in the city of Burgas. In his early years, he showed interest in theatre and the performing arts, which led him to the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts "Krastyo Sarafov," where in 1988 he graduated in "Acting for Dramatic Theatre." This start gave him a solid professional foundation — both for his acting and for his multifaceted creative work.

After graduating, Emil Markov began working primarily as an actor in various theatre troupes, among them the Drama Theatre in Sliven, the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov," the Youth Theatre "Nikolay Binev," and others. There he managed to perform a wide range of roles — from dramatic characters to comedic and mime roles, which developed in him the ability to adapt his voice, body language, and approach according to the genre and the audience. Over the years he also added directing and screenwriting to his acting career, which allowed him not only to perform roles but also to take part in the creation of texts and productions.

On television, Emil Markov became popular with his role as Associate Professor Zahariev in the series "Stolen Life," which aired for several years and gave him tangible recognition among viewers. After that he also appeared in series such as "The Lies in Us," where he played the character of Konstantin Sheytanov, and in other popular productions, demonstrating his ability to transfer his stage experience to television drama. In addition, as a screenwriter, he contributes to the development of television formats and has a role in screenwriting teams.

In 2025, Emil Markov is also part of a new theatre project that highlights both his acting and directing skills — the production "The Neighbors Upstairs" at Artvent Theatre. In this production he appears together with Lilia Maravilia, Silvia Petkova, and Ivan Burnev. Here, Markov not only acts, but also takes on a directing role, adapting the Spanish comedy film by Cesc Gay to the Bulgarian context. The performance depicts Ana and Julio — a long-married couple in which distance, monotony, and misunderstandings set in, while the neighbors upstairs become a mirror of desires, fears, and hidden dissatisfactions. The comic clashes, the drama, the tension between the characters make "The Neighbors Upstairs" not just a comedy, but a way to talk about human relationships, about expectations, and about how close we are to our true selves, even when everyday life spills into routine conflicts.

In this production, Markov shows that he possesses not just artistic skills, but a leader's presence — he knows how to organize an ensemble, set the pace, and balance between humor and tension, between small gestures of sensitivity and great outbursts of emotion. The duration of the performance is about an hour and a half, enough to draw the viewer into the story, but also to leave room for reflection.

On a personal level, Emil Markov is married to Albena Pavlova and has two children — a son named Zdravko and a daughter, Mina. His family is often mentioned as part of his public image, but he remains an artist who values the balance between the stage/cameras and the personal.

Overall, Emil Markov is an actor who has traveled a long road — from a young artist pursuing theatre to a highly professional and recognizable artist across several genres. His participation in "The Neighbors Upstairs" is another step that confirms that creators with depth and experience have something to say and a way to make an impact — with a smile, with bare humanity, and with an observation of what we do every day.
