Katya Ivanova is a young Bulgarian actress who began to stand out on the theater scene while still a student, and her student roles already give an idea of her range. One of her first more visible student roles was Nastya in "At the Bottom" by Maxim Gorky - a production directed by Anton Ugrinov at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts. This participation brought her not only study experience, but also visibility among an audience that follows young actors.
After graduating or at the end of her studies, Katya joined professional productions. Her greatest public recognition to date comes with the play "Unfriended" by Steven Moffat, directed by Valentin Ganev — an Artvent production in 2023. In this comedy, Katya plays the role of Alex, part of an ensemble including Maria Sapundzhieva, Vladimir Zombori, Anelia Lutsinova and Deyan Angelov. The play combines comedic situations, conflicts between characters, dynamics and a lot of humor.
On the website of the Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theater in Blagoevgrad, Katya Ivanova is presented as part of the troupe, whose roles "outside the theater" (that is, professional, outside of school productions) include "Removed from Friends" along with her student productions, such as "At the Bottom".
The play "Removed from Friends" is performed in different seasons and on several stages - Sofia is the main one, but there are performances in other cities as well, which shows that her role receives a lasting stage presence and is appreciated by the audience.
Katya Ivanova seems to combine an interest in classical dramaturgy (school productions) with a desire to perform in contemporary theater formats that reach a wider audience. Her participation in "Unfriended" is an important step in this direction - the role of Alex places her on the horizon of an artist who enters into contemporary comedic and dialogic situations in which she works with live contact with the audience.
