Vesela Babinova is one of the most interesting young Bulgarian actresses, whose development shows not only talent, but also steady, consistent work both in the theatre and on screen. She was born on August 30, 1989 in Sofia. From an early age she was drawn to the stage — she took part in the theatre studio “Igra” under the guidance of Petar Varbanov. After that she studied at 30th Secondary School “Bratya Miladinovi”, a high school with extended study of Spanish, which further enriched her cultural horizons.
Her education continues at NATFIZ “Krastyo Sarafov”, where she graduated in “Acting for Dramatic Theatre” in the class of Plamen Markov in 2013. Her path is not only academic — in 2012, even before officially graduating, she received the Askeer Award for “Rising Star” for her role as Kolya
Lebedushkin in the production “Night Butterfly” by Pyotr Gladilin, directed by Yavor Gardev. After that she was given the “Golden Age” award by the Ministry of Culture.
Vesela’s theatrical repertoire features roles that show her diversity: she appears in productions by classical and contemporary authors, at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the Little City Theatre “Behind the Canal”, the Theatre Laboratory “Sfumato”, Theatre 199 “Valentin Stoychev”.
She plays Ophelia in “Hamlet” (Yavor Gardev), Lore Levin in “Liv Stein” (nominated for “Ikar” in 2016), and a number of other roles recognized by critics and audiences.
In 2019 she won the Ikar Award for Supporting Actress for “Pop-Folk Chronicles: White Birds and Bullets” — one of the productions in which she reveals herself not only as an actress, but also as a socially engaged artist who works with themes close to contemporary public attitudes.
For Vesela it is important to be part of projects that provoke — as in “Do You Swear on the Children?” by Salomé Lelouch, as well as in “Code Yellow”. In “Do You Swear on the Children?” she appears in one of the leading roles together with Vladimir Zombori. The couple on stage reflects their real relationship outside it. The play raises questions about fidelity, expectations, morality, what it means to promise, what an oath means — topics that Vesela embraces with a desire to play a character who carries both empathy and inner tension.
In “Code Yellow”, a production by Teodora Markova, directed by Yana Titova, Vesela is Emma — the boss’s wife in the plot, one of four women who find themselves in a whirlwind of chaos, but also of candor, of their own desires and compromises. The play is characterized by comedic situations, domestic absurdities, and moral dilemmas viewed through a female lens.
Vesela is known not only as a stage performer, but also as an active participant in television and cinema. Among her popular on-screen roles are in the series “Don’t Worry About Me” (appearing as Yanitsa), “Father’s Day”, “A Picture with Yuki”. Her personal life also appears in the public space — she is the partner of Vladimir Zombori, with whom she has a daughter named Yoana.
The end of the year 2025 brings a new challenge for Vesela: “Code Yellow” is among the premiere titles expected to draw audiences. And her role in “Do You Swear on the Children?” has already received good reviews — for both humor and depth — because it holds up a mirror to personal and family choices.
Vesela Babinova is an example of an artist who not only performs but also asks, who not only creates characters but also participates in their dilemmas. Her characters are not just figures on the stage — they are people, with insecurities, with emotions, with values that move, change, are sometimes contradictory, and this makes her interesting, necessary, and fresh on the theatrical scene.
