Zorro – a musical with Vladimir Zombori
State Opera-Ruse and Zorro USA LLC present
The musical „Zorro“, inspired by the legendary hero, with the unforgettable music of Gipsy Kings and John Cameron. A production that will immerse you in a world where love, freedom and courage intertwine as one.
In the Bulgarian version of the musical, the role of the charismatic Zorro is taken on by Vladimir Zombori, who makes his debut in this genre. The young Diego de la Vega takes his fate into his own hands and becomes a legend. From the romantic silhouette with a black mask to the mark he leaves with his sword, he is a symbol of justice, of rebellion against evil and of the protection of the wronged. The enigmatic hero with the black mask defends the innocent and faces adversity with the dance of the sword and the rhythm of flamenco.
In the show you will hear some of the most famous songs by Gipsy Kings, such as „Bamboleo“, „Baila Me“ and „Djobi, djoba“, woven into Zorro’s story.
The director of the production is Ivaylo Nenov, and the conductor-producer – Dimitar Kosev. The sets and costumes are by Petya Boyukova, the choreography – by Natalia Osipova, and the translation – by Vanya Georgieva. Featuring soloists, choir, ballet and orchestra of the State Opera – Ruse with conductor Stelyana Dimitrova-Hernani.
More than 200 years ago, on the shores of California, the legend of Zorro was born. Since then, the hero has come to life in dozens of books, films and stage adaptations – each of which adds a new stroke to his myth. Legendary actors such as Douglas Fairbanks, Alain Delon and Antonio Banderas have taken on the role with style and charisma, proving that Zorro does not grow old – he is reborn. With every generation he returns – stronger, faster, more inspiring. Because the world always needs its hero.
„Zorro“ is not just a musical – it is a fiery adventure that will make you believe that heroes exist... And that justice always finds its way.
The world premiere of the production was in 2008 in London, after which it was performed in Paris, Tel Aviv, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, Amsterdam, etc. In 2009, the musical received five nominations for the „Laurence Olivier“ award, including for best show and best choreography.

Flamenco guitars, thunderous footwork and edge‑of‑the‑seat swordplay collide in this stage version of the masked legend. Zorro first leapt onto a British stage in 2008 and has since travelled widely; what you’ll hear is a high‑octane blend of rumba‑flamenca rhythms and soaring ballads performed live by a full orchestra, large chorus and ballet company. Expect onstage illusions and fire effects alongside tightly choreographed duels — the spectacle is part of the show’s DNA.
The musical’s pedigree is West End solid. With a book by Stephen Clark and Helen Edmundson and songs made famous by the Gipsy Kings, the London production opened at the Garrick Theatre on July 15, 2008 after a spring tour. It went on to appear at the Royal Variety Performance that December and garnered five Laurence Olivier Award nominations in 2009, with Lesli Margherita winning for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
In Bulgaria, the title has its own history: a first national staging arrived at the National Music Theatre in Sofia on January 13, 2012. State Opera–Ruse introduced its new production to home audiences on April 26, 2025, subsequently earning the “Crystal Lyre 2025” Audience Award as well as the prize in the Operetta and Musical category — recognition that underlines how powerfully this version lands with theatregoers.
Choreography here carries a special stamp: Natalia Osipova, internationally acclaimed principal of The Royal Ballet in London, sculpts the flamenco‑driven movement language that powers the evening. The result is storytelling that moves — literally — with percussive precision and a romantic pulse.
Leading the cast as Diego de la Vega is Vladimir Zombori, a Bulgarian actor from Plovdiv trained at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts. Known to screen audiences for contemporary Bulgarian film and television work as well as prolific voice‑acting roles, he brings an actor’s finesse to the swaggering disguise and the quieter, conflicted man behind the mask.
Whether you come for the music, the dancing, or the legend’s swashbuckling bravado, this Bulgarian production stands on the shoulders of a celebrated international hit and adds its own pulse, color and bite.
